Turn Contract Insights into Action with Docusign Iris AI Assistant and Agents
New AI and agentic capabilities have launched in Docusign to automate complex, multi-step contract workflows, powered by Docusign Iris. By combining deep agreement context, enterprise-ready governance, and cross-platform orchestration, this release equips teams with a conversational AI assistant, customizable agents, and dynamic portfolio analysis tools to automate repetitive tasks so teams can focus on higher-value work.

Your agreements are the backbone of your business. But the process of managing them (extracting data, enforcing standards, chasing approvals, tracking renewals) is still largely manual, slow, and disconnected.
Docusign Iris, our AI and agentic engine, is changing that.
A suite of new features and agentic capabilities in the Docusign Intelligent Agreement Management (IAM) platform are generally available today across North America, bringing intelligent analysis and automation to every stage of your agreement workflows. Think of it as giving your team a set of context-aware collaborators who understand your contracts as deeply as you do, and can act on that understanding at scale.
The problem is familiar
Every organization we talk to is dealing with the same tension: agreements are complex, teams are being asked to do more with less, and the tools they're using weren't built for this moment.
Leadership teams can't easily surface macro-level business data across their portfolios. Procurement leaders spend hours extracting information from individual documents just to build a negotiation strategy. Legal teams can't enforce compliance standards consistently when everything is managed manually.
The downstream effects are real: missed renewals, lost revenue, overlooked risks, and strategic experts burning cycles on work that should be automated.
What we're launching today
With today’s release, teams can immediately leverage Iris to transform how contract work gets done. Powered by Docusign Iris, our proprietary AI engine for agreements, each feature is designed to meet teams where they are and scale with them as they grow.
A contract AI assistant
Docusign Iris is grounded in your full agreement context. The AI assistant isn't a generic chatbot bolted onto a product. It's deeply integrated with your agreement data, like your repository of signed agreements, your negotiation history, and your business logic. When you ask Iris a question, it actually has the context to give you a meaningful answer.
Ask Iris to summarize a complex portfolio, surface hidden obligations across hundreds of agreements, or initiate workflows to categorize and structure documents. Iris handles macro-level, portfolio-wide analysis that could take a human team days to complete.
Ready-to-deploy agents
We’re also introducing pre-built agents designed to execute complex, multi-step agreement tasks out of the box. You can invoke them by chatting with the Iris assistant or plug them directly into Workflow Builder as discrete steps.
These agents are built for the workflows that consume the most time across legal, procurement, and sales teams: intake triage, playbook review, obligation tracking, and more.
Custom agents
For teams that need something tailored to their specific processes, Docusign Agent Studio lets you build, scale, govern, and optimize custom agents using natural language. No code, no complex setup — just describe what you need.
Custom agents leverage your agreement data and historical context within Docusign. You give them your organization's legal playbooks, business logic, and policies, and they can take configured actions across other systems you’re working in. Like ready-to-deploy agents, you can invoke them via Iris or as steps in Workflow Builder.
Dynamic worksheets for high-volume contract analysis
When teams need to do high-volume contract analysis and fast, worksheets is an AI-assisted portfolio analysis tool that helps users quickly surface insights, trends, and risks across thousands of documents at once. By automating data aggregation and analysis in your repository, you have more time for high-impact customer conversations.
Why Docusign agents are different
There's no shortage of AI tools on the market. But most of them share a fundamental limitation: they don't have the context your agreements require. Here's what sets Docusign agents apart:
Deep agreement context. Docusign agents are grounded in data across the full lifecycle of your contracts — your repository, negotiation history, templates, approvals, and business logic. General-purpose AI models don't have this. That context is the difference between a generic summary and an insight you can actually act on.
Governance by design. We're building the trust layer for your agents. Every action is auditable. Every workflow is governed. When you scale your agentic workforce, your policies, legal playbooks, and compliance standards aren't an afterthought — they're the foundation.
"Work-where-you-work" orchestration. We're not asking you to change how your team operates. Whether through native integrations with third-party platforms like Salesforce, Slack, and HubSpot, or through open standards like the Docusign MCP (open beta), we ensure you can securely access Iris wherever work happens.
What teams are doing with agents in contracts
These capabilities are designed to support real workflows across legal, sales, and procurement. Here are some of the patterns we're seeing teams put into action:
Streamline intake and triage: autonomously extract metadata, identify priority levels, and recommend routing based on risk assessments.
Standardize terms and reduce drafting errors: cross-reference historical hierarchies and merge data from external records.
Identify compliance risks: rapidly surface non-standard terms in third-party agreements with risk scoring to help prioritize reviews.
Accelerate negotiations: automatically apply configured fallback rules and guide reviewers with AI-generated clause citations.
Automate obligation tracking: track obligations and calculate future deadlines with live current-date tracking.
Reference data from 3rd party systems: Compare order forms against MSAs or contract data stored in CRMs like Salesforce or HubSpot to flag deviations, dates, quantities, or discounts.
Streamline signature workflows: handle final envelope preparation, participant tracking, and automated reminders.
Who this is for
These capabilities are built for cross-team collaboration. They help teams that need to accelerate contract lifecycles and reduce operational friction without adding headcount.
Unlike legacy point solutions or general AI that lacks the full context of your agreements, templates, negotiation history, and business logic, Docusign agents let you securely delegate complex, multi-step tasks with the governance your organization requires.
