Docusign’s 2026 internship program saw 36 interns across three U.S. offices gain hands-on exposure to AI, product, and engineering while preparing for future careers.

Summarize with AI

As the summer sun sets on our 2026 internship program, we are reflecting on the energy, technical breakthroughs, and fresh perspectives our interns brought to Docusign.

This summer, 36 interns joined us across our U.S. offices in Chicago, San Francisco, and Seattle. From their first days of onboarding, they were immersed in the work and culture of Docusign. They took part in hands-on workshops, technical deep dives focused on subjects such as AI policy, UX research, and accessibility, and professional development sessions covering real-world topics including emotional agility and overcoming imposter syndrome.

The experience extended well beyond formal programming. Through team meet-ups, conversations with leaders, and opportunities to learn from experienced professionals, our interns connected what they had learned in the classroom with the way products and solutions are built in the real world. They were encouraged to ask questions, share ideas, and understand the thinking behind the work - not simply observe it from the sidelines.

Across departments, interns contributed to complex projects in an AI-empowered landscape and created tools and features that support our customers every day. We spoke with several members of this year’s cohort to learn what it is really like to be a Docusign intern and what they will carry forward from the experience.

Making a Tangible Impact

At Docusign, we believe an internship should be more than a learning exercise that ends when the summer is over. Internship expectations can vary, but for the 2026 class, the experience was defined by genuine integration into the teams doing the work. Whether they were writing code, contributing to strategy sessions, or exploring new ways to solve customer problems, interns were trusted to participate meaningfully and take ownership of their projects.

Across the program, interns helped optimize security protocols, developed their understanding of AI through our AI Academy, and contributed to features designed to make complex tasks easier for users. When their code or work went live, they could see the direct result of their contribution.

A big part of my role was moving between different perspectives. I worked with people who understood the business process deeply, and people who would ultimately have to use the solution. I would take feedback from those conversations, turn it into a change in the prototype or analysis, and then bring it back for review.

Vikram’s experience reflects the kind of problem-solving the internship program is designed to encourage: using technology to improve the work people do while keeping human judgment at the center. For interns, experiences like this provide a practical understanding of how innovation is shaped by real needs, thoughtful design, and responsible implementation.

Growing Through Community and Mentorship

Cutting-edge technology may bring people to Docusign, but our culture is what helps them feel connected and supported. Throughout the summer, interns had opportunities to build relationships with their teammates and learn from professionals with different experiences and perspectives.

Mentorship extended far beyond project oversight. Mentors helped interns work through technical questions and offered perspective when a new challenge felt unfamiliar. Those relationships also created space for conversations about career paths and the kind of work interns might want to pursue next.

I always felt like people were rooting for me. I had the opportunity to build lasting friendships, connect with employees across different organizations, and learn more about technology, pre-sales, and the career I want to pursue.

Interns also used the Growing@ Docusign framework to work with their managers on clear Development Goals alongside their day-to-day projects. The framework gave them a way to think intentionally about their growth, and turn feedback into action. Alongside coaching and team support, the broader intern experience included career workshops, networking opportunities, and a leadership speaker series designed to help students build confidence and expand their view of what is possible.

Giving back to our communities is also an important part of Docusign culture. Through Impact events, interns had the opportunity to step outside their day-to-day roles and contribute together. In San Francisco, they partnered with GLIDE opens in a new tab to serve over 100 meals, while in Seattle, the team worked with Food Lifeline opens in a new tab to sort and repackage over 5,000 pounds of food. These experiences connected interns with the communities around our offices and showed how collective action can turn time and teamwork into tangible support for others.

Advice for the Next Generation

What does it take to thrive at Docusign? We asked our cohort what advice they would give to students applying for the next cycle. Their answer was clear: "bring your curiosity".

For interns, curiosity is the readiness to ask questions, listen closely, and explore how unfamiliar pieces of work fit together. You do not need to know every technical answer on day one. What matters is being open to feedback and a willingness to take on challenges that may initially feel outside your comfort zone.

The cohort also emphasized the value of showing up and building relationships. Spending time with your team in the office can create opportunities for informal conversations, and these interactions help interns see how ideas move from a classroom concept to a product, service, or decision that supports customers.

Try to work in the office with your team as much as possible - they are the moments where you learn the most and build meaningful relationships.
