Which Digital Nomad Are You?

Rose Slaton

In our new Digital Nomad blog series, we’ll begin by looking at the three prominent types of digital nomads. In the three installments that follow, we’ll share stories from real-life remote Docusign employees on how technology has transformed the way they work.

For many years, the workday status quo was simple: Wake up, head to the office, stay eight hours, head home. Yet, as mobile devices began to become more and more prevalent in our everyday lives, the conventional idea of a “workday” began to shift.

While the majority of us still head to a brick-and-mortar location each day, a rising number -- particularly millennials -- are opting to trade in our office desks for remote working. According to a recent Gallup poll ”43 percent of employed Americans said they spent at least some time working remotely.” Though it may seem working outside the office could suppress productivity, the opposite may be true: A study conducted by a Stanford University professor and Ctrip, the largest travel agency in China, found that not only did home-based employees work more than their office counterparts, they were also more productive.

Of the percentage of who work remotely, digital nomads take it a step further -- and often do away with the office and home altogether. That being said -- digital nomads are a varied and dynamic bunch. We decided to look into the three most prominent types of remote workers.

Which one are you?

Remote Worker

This type of digital nomad has the firmest footing in the traditional office place. They likely have a desk they come to a few times a week to see colleagues face-to-face. This digital nomad would leverage a combination of Docusign Bulk Send, Comments, and Powerforms.  When they’re not in the office -- they may be nomadic -- but their wanderlust is confined to the context of local coffee shops and work trips. Remote Workers are often found clacking over laptops in coffee shops, or sequestered in home offices.

Freelancer

The Freelancer has no office. They may primarily reside in a certain city, but have favorite spots around the country or globe they perpetually touch down in. This digital nomad would leverage a combination of Docusign [](<embed data-align=), Payments, and Powerforms. Their nomadic lifestyle and ability to travel on a whim is a symptom of their decision to be their own boss -- rather than the other way around. Freelancers are most commonly designers, motion graphics editors, audit consultants, and more. We’ve heard of designers climbing to the highest peaks as a way to strike inspiration - but they always return home.

Wanderluster

The Wanderluster is the Freelancer flip-flopped. They always had the impulse to travel the world -- and built their profession around that desire. This digital nomad would leverage a combination of Docusign Bulk Send, Global Time Zone Support, and Standards-based Signatures. You’ll find Wanderlusters around travel blogs, with an Instagram perfectly themed, and with a profile photo looking off into the distance.
