In early 2015, DocuSign IMPACT didn’t have a name. It was only an idea: What if we began sending out teams of DocuSign employees from across the globe to volunteer for their respective communities? What if we encouraged everyone to leave their desk, roll up their sleeves, ladle soup, or plant trees? What if we gave each and every employee three days paid-time-off annually to volunteer at a place of their choosing?
It didn’t take long for our “what if” scenario to quickly transform into a self-propelling organization within the company: Fast-forward a year-and-a-half and we’re on the eve of our second annual Global IMPACT Day.
Last year, hundreds of employees — from account managers in San Francisco to administrative assistants in Sydney, to customer support reps in Paris — put on their gardening gloves, tied their aprons, laced up their work boots and ventured out together to volunteer in their neighborhoods and communities.
This year? We’re doing it all again: Tomorrow, we’re unplugging from our devices, shoving back from our desks and hitting the soup kitchens and green spaces. Some of our destinations include Habitat for Humanity, a nonprofit dedicated to building affordable housing, Redeeming Soles, a nonprofit committed to providing shoes for the underprivileged, Mountains to Sound Greenway, an organization that works to preserve over 100,000 acres of forest in the Pacific Northwest, and the Alliance Health Project, an LGBT center supporting the mental health and wellness of the LGBTQ and HIV-affected communities in San Francisco.
Although Global IMPACT Day is our largest event of the year, DocuSign IMPACT is committed to driving change year-round. From San Francisco to Tel Aviv to London, DocuSign employees routinely venture out in small but mighty teams to help plant trees, build houses, clean up green spaces, ladle soup, tidy horse stables, and more.
While there’s no substitute for putting on a pair of work boots, we also know that as a tech company we can help nonprofits drive change on a grander scale by helping them leverage our own technology. That’s why DocuSign IMPACT is also committed to helping nonprofits simplify their own workflows at a special rate: Our DocuSign for Nonprofits program provides 501(c)(3) status nonprofits with DocuSign Standard at a 30% discount so they can spend less time on paperwork and more time on their actual missions.
What have we learned so far? Giving back isn’t just the right thing to do — it’s fulfilling: Our employees not only get to know new people on Global IMPACT Day, they form stronger bonds with one another. Providing shoes to people in need? Helping serve youth in foster care? Breaking up the typical day-to-day in favor of piling into a bus with your colleagues and getting a little muddy? We can’t think of a day better spent.
