DocuSign eSignature Free Trial FAQs

Login page for DocuSign Free Trial

DocuSign eSignature enables individuals and organizations to send and electronically sign agreements quickly and easily. If you’re looking to use DocuSign eSignature without committing to a paid plan, we have several free experiences available for you to try.

In this post, we’ll break down the differences between our 30-day free trial and free signing account and answer frequently asked questions about each. Additionally, we’ll explore the benefits of trying our demo and developer accounts — for those looking to experiment with eSignature features and build integrations in a test environment.

30-Day Free Trial versus a free account for signers

If you want to try DocuSign eSignature before purchasing, we offer a 30-day free eSignature trial and a free eSignature account primarily intended for signers.

30-Day Free Trial

Designed for individuals and organizations interested in sending agreements out for signature and signing agreements. The 30-day free trial allows you to try many of the top features of DocuSign eSignature, as found in our Business Pro Plan.

What eSignature features will I get to use during the 30-day free trial?

Using our free trial, you’ll enjoy many of the features of DocuSign eSignature Business Pro for 30 days. The trial includes essential features like reusable templates, collaborative comments and basic fields. You’ll also enjoy additional features like signing Reminders to recipients and advanced fields like Drawing, which allows signers the ability to freely draw on insurance claims, physician-patient intake forms and other agreements.

How many envelopes does the 30-day free trial offer?

We offer you up to 100 free envelopes to send over these 30 days.

Do I need a credit card to sign up?

No credit card is required to sign up. This way, you won’t be charged if you forget to cancel your account after 30 days. Sign up with a valid email address and create a password to get started.

How do I upgrade my 30-day free trial to a paid plan?

  • We place a large upgrade button in the upper-right corner of your trial account once it has expired so you can easily convert to a paid plan and remain active in sending envelopes.
  • Additionally, you can visit our plans and pricing page for more information about each eSignature plan before purchasing.

Free account for signers

Our free DocuSign eSignature account is designed primarily for signers who wish to keep their agreements stored within the DocuSign system for quick and convenient access in the future. Think of this free account as the most stripped-down version of eSignature intended for signers looking to store and retrieve signed agreements sent from external parties.

How many envelopes do I get to send with the free signer-specific account?

We offer you three envelopes to send using this free account, but it’s purposely limited to ensure you’re using it for signing and storing signed agreements.

Does the free signer-specific account expire?

As opposed to the 30-day trial, free accounts do not expire.

Are there any restrictions with this free plan?

Unlike the 30-day free trial, the free plan isn’t based on the Business Pro account and has many restrictions regarding its eSignature features and functionality. Additionally, it’s only available for one user per account.

How do I sign up for this free plan to try it out?

Test eSignature features using a free demo account

If you’re interested in testing out DocuSign eSignature’s powerful features and tools in a demo setting before purchasing a plan, we offer a demo account for non-developers

How does the testing environment work for the demo account?

We use a separate server environment for these accounts to ensure testing doesn’t affect live production environments. We release many of our newest features here first before pushing them out to general production in our live environments.

Do signed envelopes sent using the demo account count as legally binding contracts?

Please note that all documents sent for signature using a demo account are invalid as a legally binding contract, seeing this account is designed for testing purposes only.

How long do envelopes sent out in this testing environment last?

Any envelopes sent out for testing are removed after 30 days from your demo account.

How can I add specific features to the demo account?

If you cannot find a specific feature or tool to use in the demo account, don't hesitate to get in touch with our customer support to see if we can enable this feature for you.

How does the testing environment work for the developer account?

Like the demo account, we use a separate server environment to ensure testing doesn’t affect live production environments. In fact, we release many of our newest features here first before pushing them out to general production in our live environments.

Do signed envelopes sent using the developer account count as legally binding contracts?

All documents sent for signature using a developer account are invalid as a legally binding contract, seeing this account is designed for developer purposes only.

How can I add DocuSign features to the developer account?
