Our “We Are DocuSign,” blog series places the spotlight on employees from a variety of departments and provides a peek into what it’s like to work at DocuSign. This week, we sat down with Phil, Customer Service Director, EMEA to chat about his day-to-day work, what he admires about his colleagues, and something none of his coworkers know about him.

Q: What do you do at DocuSign?

I manage the support team for EMEA and we cover all the DocuSign products.

Q: What do your friends and family think you do?

[Laughs.] Hardly anything at all. My family would be aware that I work in technology company. And would be aware that it has lives in the cloud. Some of them — but not all — would be aware of the signature element.

Q: What is the best thing about working at DocuSign?

The best thing about working at DocuSign right now is that we’re building a really, really cool company. There’s an awful lot of things we can do for our customers. There’s a lot of things we can do for our product. There’s a lot of things we can do in terms of how we scale out the business. So it’s really, really exciting to be part of that building process. We’re one heck of a multinational, global startup.

Q: What department do you work in at DocuSign and what does that team do?

We’re part of customer support. We provide technical support for multi-languages across Europe for DocuSign. We  also provide some billing support again — multilingual.

Q: How is that team different than other teams at Docusign? Is there anything special about your team’s dynamic?

We’re not one year old yet. We’re the first support team to do multi-lingual support. Because we’re a young team and a small team, we have a real sense of family. There’s a huge level of cooperation and willingness to roll up our sleeves and get work done. We cover a lot of different functions and have been on a steep learning curve for the last twelve months while supporting DocuSign in different languages.

Q: What is the best advice you can give to somebody starting a new job in your department at DocuSign?

There are no silly questions. If you’re unsure, ask.

Q: What traits do you most admire in your colleagues at DocuSign?

Their innovation. Their tenacity. I love the fact that there’s so much pride and passion to make sure the customer is looked after. That’s the starting point for every engagement.

Q: What traits do you think your DocuSign colleagues most admire in you?

[Laughs] I can be very honest. Most of the times that is a good thing. I’ll call a spade a spade. If I see something, I won’t hesitate to give an opinion. And it’ll be an honest opinion.

Q: What is something most of your colleagues at DocuSign don’t know about you?

I had an extra part in the Bollywood film.  The one and only Bollywood film that was filmed in Dublin.

And yes, it was a dancing part.

Q: What is your favorite snack from the DocuSign kitchen?

Porridge and blueberries.

Q: Where is your favorite place to work or have a meeting at DocuSign and why?

There’s a meeting room in Dublin called Yeats. After the poet WB Yeats. And it’s a glass meeting room so you can see out onto the city. And if the camera angle is set correctly it kinda looks like you’re on a beach cabana.

Q: What is the best project you ever worked on at DocuSign and why?

Creating a “brand-new-nobody’s-ever-done-this-before” team in Dublin with multi-lingual support.

Q: If you were not working at DocuSign and could do anything in the world, what would you be doing/do next?

Test driver for Ferrari so I could roll out in every new Ferrari.

Q: What is the secret to happiness for you? 

Fixing stuff. I love walking away from a situation where I know we’ve not only fixed the problem but we’ve fixed the cause of the problem. And for me that is…there’s no better feeling than having that solution recognized and put into place.
