Q: What do you do at DocuSign?
I’m a Senior Field Marketing Manager, and I coordinate events where we meet and interact with clients. Some examples are trade shows, conferences, and parties.
Q: What do your friends and family think you do?
They think all I do is travel around and visit cool cities and National Parks. When I travel for work, I sometimes will extend my stay. So that’s how they might get that impression. They don’t understand how much I’m working nonstop when I manage events.
I’m actually going to Olympic National Park tomorrow. I’ve never been there but have always wanted to explore it. I’ve also been to the Smoking Mountains, Yosemite, Sequoia, Tetons, Zion, and many more. I’ve recently set a goal to visit all 59 National Parks.
Q: What is the best thing about working at DocuSign?
The people and our mission. I’ve worked at a lot of different companies, and I find the people at DocuSign to be on another level of awesome. At DocuSign you go to work and look forward to it not only because you like your job but because you like the people and you feel like family. My co-workers are smart and have great personal and professional experiences. They’re interesting and fun.
I also love our mission: We help clients conduct business more efficiently, and make their lives easier. I also love the environmental impact of how our product reduces the amount of paper used.
Q: How is that team different than other teams at DocuSign? Is there anything special about your team’s dynamic?
My team is very social. You need to be when you manage customer-facing events. You’re dealing both internal teams and clients. You’ve got to enjoy meeting all kinds of people and helping them with their business. My team definitely likes to work hard and play hard.
Q: What is the best advice you can give to somebody starting a new job in your department at DocuSign?
Meet as many people from as many other departments as you possibly can. Understand the structure. It’s about really understanding where staff fit into the company’s goals. You need to understand the big picture. Don’t just focus on the day-to-day — understand how your tasks are helping us meet our objectives.
Q: What traits do you most admire in your colleagues at DocuSign?
The ability to get along with everyone. I admire colleagues who build good personal relationships with the teams we work with. Also, those who have excellent planning skills — and are able to stay sane under a lot of pressure and get the job done.
Q: What traits do you think your DocuSign colleagues most admire in you?
My experience. I’ve held my current position at different companies over many years. I’m also pretty easy going. I want my employees to be able to have ownership and not feel like they’re being micromanaged. They know what they need to do and the best way to manage their work.
Q: What is something most of your colleagues at DocuSign don’t know about you?
I have played in rock bands and was a stagehand and concert production assistant. I’ve worked part-time for numerous musicians over the years and have seen almosts 200 concerts.
Q: What is your favorite snack from the DocuSign kitchen?
Anything sweet. I have a sweet tooth.
Q: What is the best project you ever worked on at DocuSign and why?
The volunteer time off (VTO) days for DocuSign IMPACT. We have the opportunity to help on philanthropic projects. I worked within our real estate group, and we went to a National Association of Realtors conference and helped build a Habitat for Humanity house. This group helps sell houses — and it was cool to actually create one. Those three VTO days are very fulfilling.
Q: If you were not working at DocuSign and could do anything in the world, what would you be doing/do next?
I would become an outdoor adventure tour guide. Or a roadie for a band.
Q: What is the secret for you to happiness?
Be happy wherever you are in your life even if you aspire for more. It will come if you work hard. It is important to be satisfied with what you’re doing on a day-to-day basis to be fulfilled.
