We Are DocuSign: Amy S.

Our “We Are DocuSign,” blog series places the spotlight on employees from a variety of departments and provides a peek into what it’s like to work at DocuSign. This week, we sat down with Amy, Executive Director of DocuSign IMPACT, to chat about her day-to-day work, what she admires about her colleagues, and something none of her coworkers know about her.

Q: What do you do at DocuSign?

I’m the Executive Director of DocuSign IMPACT, which is our corporate responsibility initiative. I also lead our diversity efforts globally.

Q: What do your friends and family think you do?

Ha!  My mom actually asked me recently:  “I know you help nonprofits and work in technology, but just exactly what do you do every day?”

Q: What is the best thing about working at DocuSign?

The best thing about working at DocuSign is the collective sense that we have an important contribution to make to the world through our technology, our people, and our business. Commensurate with this shared purpose, there is a commitment to helping organizations of all different types operate better so they can use their resources more wisely.  In my role, I get to help nonprofits focus more of their precious resources on what really matters, which is their missions.

Q: How is your team different than other teams at Docusign? Is there anything special about your team’s dynamic?

I work with a virtual, global team that is comprised of folks within the company who have regular day jobs in marketing, product, CS, etc. that keep them pretty busy — and in addition they go above and beyond to spend an extra 5 or 10% of their time bringing our IMPACT initiative to life because they believe that we as a company have so much to offer nonprofit organizations.

Q: What is the best advice you can give to somebody starting a new job in your department at DocuSign?

Use our product as much as possible. That’s where you will experience the value of what we bring to our customers day in and day out and understand the opportunity ahead of us and why we are on such a positive trajectory.

Q: What traits do you most admire in your DocuSign colleagues?

I admire the level of commitment to their work. We run a lean organization. On the one hand, this can be very demanding. On the other hand, it opens up opportunities for folks to get exposure to many new things and take on leadership roles that might not be available in other companies. Our team is hungry, ready to learn, and ready to take advantage of the opportunities that are presented to them.

Q: What traits do you think your DocuSign colleagues most admire in you?

My colleagues frequently referred to me as a “realistic optimist.” I’m tremendously optimistic about what we as a team can accomplish together, but I’m also realistic about challenges and risks.

Q: What is something most of your colleagues at DocuSign don’t know about you?

I am a huge international soccer fan, and I’ve been to five out of the last six World Cups. I lived in Spain for a couple of years, so I have a strong affinity for the Spanish team as well as the U.S. team.

Q: What is your favorite snack from the DocuSign kitchen?

It’s a tight race between the hard-boiled eggs and the Party Mix.

Q: Where is your favorite place to work or have a meeting at DocuSign and why?

Any of the conference rooms with views of the Bay Bridge. Those views are world class.

Q: If you weren’t at DocuSign and could do anything, what would you do?

If I weren’t working at DocuSign, I would move to a developing country and work in an international NGO focused on humanitarian aid. Time that I have spent volunteering with a women’s artisan cooperative in Haiti has been tremendously rewarding and inspiring to me.

Q: What is the secret to happiness for you?

The secret to happiness, for me, is thinking everyday about how I can help others and leave the world a little better off than I found it. When I feel like I’ve been of service to the world and created value for those around me,  I have a wonderful sense of peace and of satisfaction.

This is awesome! It is such a pleasure to have someone like Amy here making a true IMPACT to our company and partnered organizations! She rocks!

  2. Wonderful to know about this group … DocuSign. If the company is as articulate and thoughtful as this employee, it is worth taking a closer look – and that is what I plan to do.
Thanks to my friend who shared this with me.
