Q: What do you do at DocuSign?
I’m a Director of Program Management within the IT organization. I help steer complex initiatives and connect stakeholders from within our organization as well as the rest of the business. My charge is to ensure sure everyone is on the same page and same path to get a project completed. Typically our projects are for our internal systems, such as an HR or Finance system, as opposed to customer-facing systems.
Q: What is the best thing about working at DocuSign?
I’ve really enjoyed having control of my own career path at DocuSign. There’s been a continuous stream of new opportunities that have come my way here. We’re a large company, yet at the same time we’re very much a small business. We have a hundreds of initiatives in play at the same time to grow and transform our business operations: We’re not just selling globally, but operating globally. As revenue and headcount increases, it creates a demand for more or reconfigured systems to help our business function more efficiently. It is a firehose, we have over 400 projects on our roadmap, yet there are only 70 people within our organization. It’s a very exciting time to be with the company.
Q: What is the best advice you can give to somebody starting a new job in your department at DocuSign?
Whenever you leave a company or organization, maintain and bring along the strong relationships with you. Stay in touch. If you’re new to DocuSign, make sure the people you had great relationships with before know what you’re up to here. I believe that our team dynamic is strong partly due to the number of great referrals who were hired over the two years. Also, because we’re growing so quickly, keep your ear to the ground for opportunities you may want to pounce on — whether they’re for an international assignment or perhaps to seize the opportunity to become an expert in a given area that adds value and could use strengthening.
Q: What traits do you most admire in your colleagues at DocuSign?
I believe that many of my colleagues are doing some of their best work during this stage in their careers due to the upward and onward environment we are working in. Also, in the midst of a fast pace many of them are adept at maintaining a casual business demeanor without sacrificing their dedication to delivering.
Q: What traits do you think your DocuSign colleagues most admire in you?
Definitely my optimism. I always have a positive outlook.
Q: What is something most of your colleagues at DocuSign don’t know about you?
As a teenager I raced gokarts internationally. Eventually I taught high performance car driving and racecar driving for over eleven years including teaching drifting in Dodge Vipers.
Q: What is your favorite snack from the DocuSign kitchen?
No question — the Tillamook cheese.
Q: Where is your favorite place to work or have a meeting at DocuSign and why?
The Bay Bridge conference room. The view is epic.
Q: What is the best project you ever worked on at DocuSign and why?
Getting the EU advanced certificate program launched and available for sale in Europe. The exercise of defining our requirements actually just happened over the last few weeks. The project is still in flight and is a collaboration between legal, revenue, operations, sales, and IT. It has been an incredibly efficient collaboration. Everyone got their requirements lined up and ready for implementation in a week-and-a-half. I’ve never seen that before here.
Q: If you were not working at DocuSign and could do anything in the world, what would you be doing/do next?
I would be team manager for a MotoGP racing team.
