Our “Second City” blog series places the spotlight on DocuSign employees based in Chicago and Warrenville who tell us about why they decided to join DocuSign, what they do here, what it’s like living and working in Chicago (an emerging tech hub), and more. At DocuSign, we want employees to look back at their time here and say they did the work of their life at DocuSign. This week we sat down with Devon M. in Sales based in Chicago to learn more about his career.
Are you originally from the Chicago area?
I’m originally from Louisville, KY. I moved to Chicago in 2002. At the time, my pops worked at GE appliances as a mechanical engineer. If you had a GE dishwasher or dryer in the late ’90s, chances are my pops had something to do with its design. He went on to accept a role in Chicago, which is how I ended up living here.
What do you do at DocuSign?
I’m on the SMB “Geo New Co” team. “Geo” is the geography we are responsible for, while “New Co” means we are focused on new logo prospects for DocuSign. We are responsible for selling the e-signature platform to new customers in the small to medium business range in a defined territory.
When and why did you decide to pursue a career in Sales?
Early on in my collegiate experience, I decided Sales would be my path after football. I always had a passion for selling anything and everything I could as a kid. The first thing I sold was a notebook from a book fair that I bought for $2 and sold for $5. Not to mention I was an outgoing guy who really enjoyed being a part of a team. Professional sales seemed to be an excellent fit for a guy coming off a lifetime of athletic involvement and a hustler’s mentality. In the sales profession you are responsible for your success and achievements.
What excites you most about working at DocuSign in Chicago?
I’m most excited about the opportunity to establish Chicago as a new hub for DocuSign. I also love that I’m part of a team that works together to do the best work of our lives. Everyone on our team is not only striving to reach personal goals but support one another to achieve team and business goals. They are also a group who forgoes ego and stays laser-focused on learning and growing together.

Whether you are looking for activities for the family, enjoy the arts or a die-hard sports fan, there is something for you to explore and enjoy working in the Chicago office. Lastly, tell us your favorite “non-touristy” thing to do in Chicago.
My two favorite non-touristy things to do are ordering the 8-piece chicken wings from Harold’s. I order mine with extra lemon pepper and extra mild. I also like to stop in on one of the many men’s clothing boutiques in and around the city; my favorites are LDRS and FatTiger.
