Microsoft Build 2018 Recap

This year DocuSign was proud to be a Gold Sponsor at Microsoft Build, held in Seattle from May 7 – 9, 2018. Microsoft Build is Microsoft’s annual conference geared toward software developers, and as you know, DocuSign loves developers. There’s no question that we loved pushing the envelope (a joke that the DocuSign crowd would understand) at this jam-packed event filled with developers from all over the world.

More than 600 people stopped by the DocuSign booth to learn how simple it is for developers to integrate their apps with the DocuSign eSignature API, and to watch demos and discuss doing just that with our C# SDK in Visual Studio, Azure, and SharePoint. Booth visitors got the opportunity to speak one-on-one with engineers and developers from DocuSign. Additional topics discussed between our experts and those visiting our booth were our pre-built solutions for Microsoft apps, our C# SDK on GitHub, and our LoanCo sample app, which demonstrates the power of the DocuSign eSignature API at three increasing levels of complexity and includes the code in both Node.js and C#.

There Ain’t No Party Like a DocuSign Party

On Day 2 of Microsoft Build, we hosted a HAPI HOUR just a couple blocks away from the conference center. Attendees not only got their hands on some tasty food and fine beverages, but were also treated with even more time to chat about our open jobs and to talk shop with several people from the worlds of HR and engineering. The party was a huge success, with 140+ people in attendance, and as you can see, plenty of smiling faces.

Learning Session from DocuSign

Then we had another great turnout on Day 3 for our DocuSign session at Microsoft Build, with standing room only for our theater session demoing how easy it is to get started with our eSignature API to send documents for signature. We also showed how to monitor the status of those documents by creating a webhook listener using an Azure function to receive DocuSign Connect notifications. Finally, we showed how to download completed (signed) documents from DocuSign and upload them into SharePoint using the SharePoint API. Mihaela (Cristina) Cris (Software Engineer, Microsoft Integrations team) and Tony Mann (Director of Developer Content) presented to 70+ developers eager to learn more about developing with DocuSign, with several groups coming up after the session to ask questions. You can find a video of the entire session right here on our Twitter account. NOTE: we apologize in advance for the shaky/amateur videography taken from a mobile phone.

Wait, There Was Free Stuff?

When you stop by a DocuSign booth, there’s always a chance of walking away with something cool. Microsoft Build 2018 wasn’t any different: on each of the first two days, one conference attendee walked away with a Phantom 3 drone. On Day 3, one lucky individual took home a Prusa 3D printer. For this 3D printer giveaway, we teamed up with our friends from Telerik, Mobilize.NET, and the .NET Team to make some magic happen as part of our joint “We Love .NET” campaign. The 3D printer came in a fairly big box, but we made sure the lucky recipient was taken care of and made it to the FedEx downstairs without issue.

Check out the happy faces of those who got to take home drones and a 3D printer.

All in all, Microsoft Build 2018 was an informative, fun, exciting, and successful event. Over the three days we were in Seattle, we met and spoke with 800+  people: some insightful, some inspiring, some with many questions, but all of whom with great minds for developing. We listened to keynote speeches from the likes of Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, saw some pretty cool SWAG, and got updates on what’s to come in the worlds of Visual Studio, Azure, and Windows.

We’re looking forward to seeing you at the next event, Momentum 2018 in San Francisco. This is DocuSign’s annual customer conference, and is in two waves:

  • Hackathon, June 9 – 10 at Galvanize in San Francisco. Hackers will compete in some amazing challenges to possibly win over $10,000 in prizes. There will be a special “hack-for-good” to benefit City Year. Salesforce is sponsoring.
  • Conference, June 20 – 21 at the Hilton San Francisco Union Square with hands-on workshops and in-depth sessions into the DocuSign API and all its capabilities.
