Can I send documents for others to sign using DocuSign Ink?

Yes! Your account includes 5 free sends so you can try it out. If you decide you need to originate documents and send them for signature for more than 5 documents, upgrade your account to another DocuSign product plan. Log In to your web account to send documents for signature.

What does DocuSign Ink do?

DocuSign Ink allows users to quickly and easily sign documents sent to them as email attachments, PDF forms, or documents stored in cloud services such as Box.net or DropBox.

Who is DocuSign Ink designed for?

DocuSign Ink is designed for everyone. Since everyone needs to sign documents and fill out forms at some point, literally every person who has internet access on any type of device can use DocuSign Ink.

What are the benefits of using DocuSign Ink?

The benefits of DocuSign Ink are many, and depend on how you use it.  Here are just a few:

  • It’s convenient. DocuSign Ink removes the hassle of having to print, sign, and fax documents back. Now you can do all this right on your mobile device or computer.
  • It’s fast. A document can be signed and returned in a matter of seconds using DocuSign Ink vs. days with paper.

How do I use DocuSign Ink?

DocuSign Ink is designed to help you easily sign and return documents from the applications and devices you use most.

  • Apple iOS Application – using the Open In feature on your iPhone or iPad, you can open most document types to  sign and return. For example, and email attachment, a file from Box.net, a PDF on a web site, or a document from another iOS application. DocuSign Ink currently supports up to 10 apps at one time in the Open In feature, including Mail, Safari, Adobe CreatePDF, DropBox, Box, GoodReader, iUnarchive, Documents To Go, and more.You can also snap a picture of a paper document, and sign and return that with DocuSign Ink for iOS.
  • Microsoft Outlook Plugin – Using the Sign Attachments option in the menu bar allows you to easily sign any attachment to an email and return it via Outlook.
  • Forwarding to Ink@docusign.com - DocuSign Ink even offers a forwarding service to send you a return email with a link to sign and return your document.
  • Any Cloud Mail Service – DocuSign Ink works from all cloud based email systems including Gmail, Hotmail, Windows Live Mail, and Yahoo! Mail.  Just use the ink@docusign.com forwarding service, and sign away!  We’ll be adding more functionality to these platforms in the future.
What is the difference between DocuSign Ink and other Apple iOS applications? Don’t they do the same thing?

No. DocuSign Ink is far easier to use, and these others do not protect your signature like DocuSign Ink does.  DocuSign Ink provides these following benefits not found in any other signing application:

  • DocuSign Ink secures your signature by linking it to the DocuSign Global Network. This means it is not possible to just ‘copy’ a signature and use it again. This IS POSSIBLE with other applications that just stamp your signature into a document.
  • DocuSign Ink provides the easiest interface with the core tools you need, and none that you don’t.  While others provide a million different checkmarks and other confusing artifacts that just clutter up the interface, DocuSign Ink is designed to be easy.
  • DocuSign Ink converts PDF fields so you can just fill out and sign.  No other application does this.
  • DocuSign Ink stores all your documents securely in the Cloud so you can’t lose them if you lose your phone or have a problem.

What if the DocuSign Ink app is not showing up in my “Open With” or “Complete acition using” menu on my mobile device?

An easy fix is to uninstall and re-install the DocuSign Ink application on your mobile device. All of your documents will be saved online in your account so you won’t lose them. You will then just need to sign into the app. In Apple’s iOS, there is a limit to the number of apps that can take advantage of “Open With” at one time – currently 10. We recommend deleting apps that you no longer use to ensure DocuSign Ink appears.

How do I import a document into DocuSign Ink on my iPad/iPhone?

You can import documents into DocuSign Ink using the Open In command on your iPad and iPhone. DocuSign Ink currently supports up to 10 apps at one time for the Open In feature, including Mail, Safari, Adobe CreatePDF, DropBox, Box, GoodReader, iUnarchive, Documents To Go, and more.

What is the difference between DocuSign Ink and DocuSign?

DocuSign Ink is a “Personal Electronic Signature” service designed to be used by everyone on personal,  day-to-day signing transactions. With DocuSign Ink you can sign ANY document sent to you as an email attachments, PDF forms, or documents stored in cloud services such as Box.net or DropBox.

All other DocuSign products are designed for business use, specifically for sending out any kind of document to get signed.

In simple terms, DocuSign Ink is for signing document, and DocuSign is for sending documents to be signed.

How do I upload an image of my pen-and-paper signature to use as my e-signature?

To upload an image of your pen-and-paper signature to use as your e-signature:

  • Take a photo of your pen-and-paper signature and save it to your hard drive as a PGN, JPG, BMP, or GIF file.
  • Log in to your Docusign account.
  • Click the Edit link in your DocuSign ID Card. You will be taken to the Manage Identity page.
  • On the Manage Identity page, click the Edit link in your ID Card.
  • Click New to add a new signature.
  • On the New Signature page, click Upload, and then the Browse button and find the image file on your hard drive.
  • Once you have found your image, click Adopt to complete the upload and adopt the image as your new signature.
What kinds of documents can I sign?

You can sign any kind of document or form with DocuSign Ink. Examples might include parent permissions slips, medical authorizations, rental agreements, or contracts.  DocuSign Ink also renders form fields so you can fill out forms and sign them easily as well. 

How do you know my signature is valid?

Documents signed using DocuSign Ink take place on the secure DocuSign Global Network, and the signature itself can be clicked to validate the signer. When clicking the signature, your DocuSign ID Card will be displayed showing as much information about you as you’d like to share. The ID card will only be shown if the document has not been tampered with, and the signing took place on the DocuSign Global Network. Both the signer and receiving party can rely on this protection.

What kinds of document file types are supported?

We provide automatic conversions for all major document types including .doc, .docx, .xls, .xlsx, .pdf, .txt, .rtf, .ppt, .pptx, 

Do I need an account to use DocuSign Ink?

Yes, but the setup is automatic and can be done quickly and easily on the DocuSign.com web site, inside the Apple iOS application, or from the Microsoft Outlook Plug-in.  

What if I already have a DocuSign account? Can I use Ink?

Yes. Just use your DocuSign login name and password when you set up DocuSign Ink, and you can sign attachments using DocuSign Ink, and they will be stored in your DocuSign console with your other documents.  If you are using a company account, it is important to check with your administrator to be sure you have signing authority for your company. If you do not, you should not use your DocuSign corporate account, but rather set up your own personal free DocuSign Ink account on a different email for your personal use.

What if I have multiple signatures on my DocuSign account?

If you have multiple signatures on your DocuSign account, you will only be able to sign a document in DocuSign Ink using the one signature accepted and verified when you created your DocuSign Ink account.

How much does DocuSign Ink Cost?

Signing is free for DocuSign Ink users.  Sign and store as many documents as you need, safely and securely.

Ok, so if it is free, how do you make money?

DocuSign Ink is free. We know that loyal customers who enjoy the benefits of signing using DocuSign Ink will tell others about DocuSign. We sell DocuSign editions to people and businesses who want to manage the sending process to obtain signatures, not just sign.  DocuSign Ink helps us spread the word to reach the “senders” of the world.

Why is there a last page appended to the documents I sign?

We attach a page to your documents to ensure the recipients understand that the documents were signed securely by you, and that they can click the signature to validate the document.  That page can be left off when printing if the recipient does not need it.
