Live Blogging The 2010 ESIGN Summit Event!

Posted June 30, 2010

We're here in San Francisco, and I'm going to share as much as possible regarding 2010 ESIGN Summit, or #ESIGN2010. These are raw notes, which will have to be fact checked, post-event.

I'll be updating Facebook, Twitter, and all of the usual suspects... links & video will be available post-event!

We're excited you're here and hope you'll enjoy yourselves as well - The DocuSign Team

Steve King:

We've got special guest speakers, product innovations... "What were you thinking planning an event on June 30th, the last day of the quarter?"

We think June 30th should be a national holiday - 10 years again, President Bill Clinton signed the ESIGN Act. DocuSign was borne of this Act - we've gone to the Hill and asked, lobbied Congress to declare June 30th National ESIGN Day.

We have a message from Congressman McDermott:

Steve King:

We appreciate Congressman McDermott's support. If we can only get Hallmark to print cards...

I first saw the potential for eSignatures during my time at ETRADE. If we could eliminate the cumbersome paper process, we could grow faster and improve customer satisfaction. Consumer confidence and legal compliance is important and with ESIGN, it paves the way for eSignature.

DocuSign - More than a Signature

We have more than 30k customers today who close business faster, decreasing closing costs by as much as 90% and improve customer satisfaction with DocuSign electronic signature.

Here are some things you might not know about President Bill Clinton:

2 million people w/ HIV /AIDS are recieving the medicines they need to survive.

Clinton Global Initiatives bring people together to solve world problems, including child obesity, teamed up with President Bush to help communities after natural disasters, such as Hurricane Katrina and Haiti's earthquake and others.

Q&A - questions submitted from media

Utah's recent court decision regarding eSignatures on ballot petitions - Thoughts?

President Clinton likes the decision & thinks we should make sure that where-ever eSignatures are put into use, there should be a good quality control screen to make sure the system isn't abused. The oversight process needs to be quick enough to keep the benefits of time savings.

Provide access to demographics who may not have access. The communities who are most marginalized need to be deliberately included.

Who owns the networks that connect us all?

Ex: energy grids - Haiti and Dominican Republic are working on a clean energy exchange and when that happens, these two countries will have to agree on how that is regulated.

ESignature's impact on Clinton's foundation mission?

Normally, when the 1st agreement is signed, they want a photographicable ceremony. After that, the healthcare and energy ops in Quincy MA and Harlem - drug producers in India and Africa and then sent out to supply networks around the world. Would be more tedious and expensive if esignature capabilities did not exist.

Final Question - Expand on role of tech plays in improving the lives of people worldwide:

Tech important role in developing and developed countries. The role will be different.

Ex: 2 ways technology can improve lives in America:
Pushing barriers and new applications for faster, more productive, and satisfying lives.
Creating new systems that don't reinforce current systems until they break.

We're taking for granted that lights, camera, mikes don't fail. That we can drink the water.

Info tech and what DocuSign does can improve the lives for developed countries as well.

We was this in how much the American Economy depended too much on the housing industry to drive economic growth.

2000 Years of History

1st contracts were stone tablets - really heavy
2nd contracts were parchment - lighter animal hide, but rots
3rd contracts were paper (2000 years ago) - lighter & doesn't rot, but still needs to be moved!

ESIGN Act, 10 years ago, put a new promise in play
4th contracts were electronic - you don't need to move anything physically

Special software was involved, something about x509 certificates, really complicated and everyone needs the software...

What if it was instantly available to anyone in the world, looks like paper, works w/ software you already have, all you need is a browser...

Tah-dah! DocuSign does that!

DocuSign enables straight through processing - no rekeying data, a source of time waste and errors.
DocuSign eliminates NIGO - get all the signatures and initials you need, where you need them

Harris Poll Results:

36% would stop overnight mail immediately
63% don't want to deal w/ pen and paper

Signature as the identity - the electronic signature is incredibly important asset and DocuSign will allow you to manage that.
