Creating Positive Customer Experiences by Closing The Sale With Electronic Signature

How appropriate that the week of Inman Real Estate Connect, we see a story about how electronic signature from DocuSign in conjunction with other real estate technologies helped Colin Crawford, Founder and CEO of Media7, and his wife Sue purchase their new home in Marin County, CA.

With this home purchase, Colin and Sue were able to leverage technologies that weren't available when they first moved to the Bay Area. Real estate search engines like Zillow and Trulia and MLS services such as Clean Offer and Great Homes helped them quickly identify properties that fit their “new home” criteria and with iPhone applications such as Zillow, Trulia, Smarter Agent, Homes.com, Blue Atlas Broker, Around Me and Google Maps, they could access the data they needed through their phones.

They worked with Patricia Navone who works for Morgan Lane, part of McLaughlin Ventures. Patricia's text messages complemented e-mail communications with the Crawfords, ensuring prompt answers to their questions.

With tools such as Colin's MacBook Air and iPhone, the Crawfords had near ubiquitous access to data.

Because this story is the Crawfords' story, I'll share the conclusion with you in their own words:

Entering a critical negotiation period just as we were on our way to Rockport, Maine to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary we thought it was going to be difficult to access, sign and return the documents given our travel schedule. However, technology came to our aid. Flying to Boston with Virgin America we were able to keep connected throughout the flight...

Using the Gogo Inflight Internet service I was able to access my email and the Internet, which allowed Sue and I to sign the offer papers electronically at 30,000 feet using the secure DocuSign e-signature service.

Additionally, I was able to transfer money in flight between my bank accounts to make the deposit available...all with a few simple clicks.

The ability to make use of the mobile in-flight service reduced our stress, made the procedures seamless and most importantly meant we did not have to take up any vacation time dealing with physical documents.

Professional help and emotional support from our agent plus our own solid research resulted in the successful purchase of a great property we believe meets all our needs for the foreseeable future.

Technology was a great enabler throughout the whole process.
