Earlier this week, we attended Cloudforce San Jose to discuss electronic signature and how DocuSign for Salesforce fit into the larger Salesforce ecosystem – we were chosen as one of four apps to be on stage to demo from over 100,000 total apps on Force.com. With more than 2,000 people at the event and more than 10,000 people watching live, we were excited to present a paperless solution that can handle complex workflows. However, the main star was Chatter and its capabilities stole the show – in eight months, Salesforce delivered a nontrivial platform application that further extends collaboration within an organization.

Social applications such as Facebook and Twitter enabled consumers to collaborate – to share ideas regarding purchasing decisions or make and share social plans and content. Chatter provides the thread to connect individuals, groups and departments within the greater enterprise in a private, secure and trusted manner.

Beyond enabling connections between key individuals within an organization, Chatter also enables connections between a business and its customers. For example, Chatter enables a company to publish and make searchable its knowledge base. This will enable customers to help themselves if they were to have an issue and look to search engines to find the answer.

With our Spring ‘10 release, we also enabled the power of collaboration. Sign on Paper – allow signers to print, sign, and return to the envelope. While we don’t want you to create paper, we understand that you may need hard copy documents. At least we can help you so you don’t have to MOVE it! If you need sign on paper, you can now elect to print out the documents, sign, and either upload or fax them back in. Perhaps you need a document notarized. Now you can handle that kind of transaction.

Request documents – request signers provide additional documentation. Sometimes you need a signature AND you need some other documentation. With DocuSign’s ‘Signer Attachments’, you can request your signer upload or fax in additional documentation to complete your transaction. Store everything securely in the same envelope, so it is easy to find. DocuSign is the only place you get electronic signature tools like this!

Advanced Correct – fix on the fly. Have you ever sent something out only to realize it was not addressed correctly or the document was missing something? You’ve got that “stuck” feeling, huh? Not if you use DocuSign! Now you can correct your documents after they have been sent! What can you “fix on the fly”?

• Missing or misplaced signature blocks
• Recipients’ name(s) spelled wrong

Of course you can’t change history, but you can adjust anything that needs adjusting before a signer signs. This just plain saves you the hassle of having to resend your documents.

Resizable Electronic Signatures. Sounds funny, but people really do want you to sign ‘inside the lines’ on some documents. Now with DocuSign’s signature resizer, you can make the signatures you collect from your signers small enough to fit in those tiny forms. This just keeps things neat and proper.

We’ve also worked with the FHA in releasing the mortgagee letter that states their acceptance of electronic signature on real estate documents.

Federal Housing Administration to Accept eSignature for Real Estate Contracts

This is a great day for eCommerce.

As the chief legal officer at DocuSign, I’d like to share my thoughts, as we applaud FHA’s action today. Their decision to clarify their position on electronic signatures will help streamline the sale and financing of homes across the country. Buyers, sellers and agents can use DocuSign’s online process to eliminate the time, expense and environmental impact of printing, delivering and signing large stacks of paper documents, and mortgage lenders can take comfort in knowing that DocuSign’s e-signature process is designed to be legally compliant in all 50 states and is fully evidenced by a comprehensive audit trail.

The last time Federal Housing Administration released any formal guidance on electronic signatures was way back in 1996. Over the past 18 months, DocuSign’s real estate and mortgage origination customers have made it clear that FHA urgently needed to update and clarify its position on electronic signatures. And we heard you.

It’s now OFFICIAL: E-signed third-party documents, including real estate contracts, are now being accepted by the Federal Housing Administration (FHA).

Today brought several questions about using DocuSign’s electronic signature services on the Apple iPad. Mike needs to have up-to-date status information on the account and its big deals that happens. To do this, Mike goes to Edge Communications’ account and clicks Follow. Mike will now be updated via Chatter of events that happen on this account.

Meanwhile, Jen Smith, the account manager for Edge Communications has been negotiating the renewal contract for 2010. The terms of the contract have been finalized and she’s now ready to send a document via DocuSign for Albert Mackey to complete and sign.

To send, Jen goes to the Send with DocuSign button that can be placed on any object in Salesforce to fit any workflow. In this case, it’s on the account object. Sending an object for eSignature is a two-step process.

Jen clicks on the Send with DocuSign button. She has the option to edit the subject and message, set reminders and expiration and clicks the Send Now button. Documents can be pretagged with data fields, text boxes and signature tabs in specific locations on the document to streamline the process.

Recipients then fill out the information requested by the sender, click to sign and complete the process.

Once Albert has completed the document, signing status and updates from the document are pushed back into Salesforce.

Jen is interested in following the status of the envelope each time that it’s updated. As you can see, Jen has set DocuSign to update the status when the envelope was created, viewed, signed and completed in .03 hours. Mike Jones is only concerned with being updated when the envelope is completed.

DocuSign has been configured to give a Chatter update on the account when the envelope is completed with the deal name, the value of the deal, when it was signed, who it was signed by and how long it took the envelope to close.

With Chatter, Mike is also able to click on Jen’s profile and congratulate her on a job well done. DocuSign has the ability to push information about the transaction being sent as well as information from inside the document to anywhere in Salesforce, allowing DocuSign to update Salesforce the way you want to. Sending Using Free Form Signing in DocuSign for Salesforce

1. Simply click the “Send with DocuSign” button
2. Tailor the email subject and message for your recipients
3. Click the “Add Recipients” button to add a signer
4. Find a lead, contact or user
5. Click the “Select” button
6. Set the routing order, type, role, access code and add a personal note if you choose.
7. Add documents from the Documents tab from Attachments or upload a document
8. Add reminders for your recipients to sign
9. Add an expiration for your offer
10. Click to send your documents for electronic signature

A confirmation message provides the details of your electronic signature request. Now, we’ll see how your recipient will see and sign your document.

Signing Using Free Form Signing in DocuSign for Salesforce
Your recipient receives and email with your subject and message, requesting their e-Signature. He or she clicks review to begin signing.

1. Agree to conduct business electronically and create an electronic signature to begin
2. With free form signing, your recipients select signature, initials and data items from the click-and-drag template to the document
3. Drag signatures, title, company and date to the signature block area, exactly where they should appear on the document
4. Enter data and text fields to provide billing address, purchase order numbers and more
5. When all your signatures and data have been placed, click the “Complete Signing” button
6. To acknowledge your signatures on the document and return it to sender, click the “Complete Signing” button

Use Salesforce to track status of your documents. View status of your documents for electronic signature in the DocuSign status list in your Opportunities record.
