Green Week at DocuSignI have been in the paperless business for nine years and joined DocuSign seven weeks ago as Director of Product Management. In honor of Arbor Day, I did some calculations to see how many trees DocuSign’s customers have saved using electronic signature and electronic contract execution. To date, over 2,500 trees have been spared. An additional 200 trees will be added to the tally this month.

Earth Day is April 22 and
Arbor Day is April 24. DocuSign benefits our customers’ businesses and their customers as well as provides a positive environmental impact via more sustainable business processes when compared to print-copy-fax or overnight.

If our electronic contracts were paper:

  • To date, the sheets stacked would be over 7,200 feet (720 stories)
  • This month, stacked sheets would be about 580 feet (58 stories)
  • To date, the sheets were placed end-to-end would be over 3,750 miles, or farther than the distance between San Francisco and New York City
  • This month, end-to-end sheets would be about 300 miles this month

Most of my DocuSign colleagues and I live in or around Seattle, Washington. The Northwest is a great place for lovers of trees and nature. My family had been here for about eight years and we just returned two months ago after a stint in Singapore. People get out and enjoy nature, rain or shine: hiking, skiing, snowshoeing, biking, running, sailing, and more. The rain and temperate climate helps keep things green year-round and the massive fir trees and hemlock trees ubiquitous.

Other environmentally positive actions at DocuSign:

  • Our commuting habits: some drive hybrid cars; other people ride the bus rather than drive; several people bike to work; a few commute on foot – one even runs
  • Our sales activities: most take place over the phone, by email, and of course, by DocuSign – light carbon footprint of our business activity

DocuSign’s impact on users and their customers:

  • When one of our customers at the Executive Customer Council remodeled their offices, they did not buy paper storage files. Why? Using DocuSign allowed them to forgo paper storage
  • Several courts have eliminated paper file storage in some types of cases due to going paperless with electronic filing DocuSign’s environmentally friendly electronic signature and online contract execution processes also helps you cut your operating costs. You cut paper, printing, faxing and shipping costs which in turn, saves trees, toner & toner cartridges, and fuel. Other benefits of DocuSign includes accelerating sales cycles and greater visibility into sales data and process. Choosing DocuSign just makes sense.
